Tuesday, October 26, 2010, Paso Robles, California

The last show of the year. The PCCHA Futurity in Paso Robles, California. This will decide Horse of the Year. TC and Boyd made the finals and drew up sixth. Dont Look Twice had some bad luck and went out in the first round.

It was a great night. Everyone on the West Coast was excited to see TC. The crowd was pumped up to say the least. They started cheering before Boyd got the first cow cut. It was a magical kind of run. TC showed more strength and cow sense than ever before. It was pretty near perfection, and the judges marked him a 231. A new personal best. Most of those who saw the run described it as the best cutting they had ever seen.

In the Horse of the Year race, TC picked up 12 points for his win and moved into a points tie with LHR Smooth Jamie May, as she had made the finals of the four-year-old. Before the four-year-old finals, the rules tie-breaker determined that LHR Smooth Jamie May had won the title.

It was a great race. TC and Boyd made some great memories and lots of new friends. Congratulations to LHR Smooth Jamie May and Phil Hanson, she is a super mare.

Next month TC and Boyd head to Oklahoma City for the AQHA World show where they will compete in the Junior Cutting.

Saturday, October 16, 2010  Calgary, Alberta, Canada

TC has been in quarantine while being collected and having semen frozen for export to Australia. This has kept him out of the show pen for the latter part of August and nearly all of September. Ready to go with Boyd back from the snaffle bit futurity in Reno, they headed up to Calgary for the next to last stop of the season in the Horse of the Year race. Dont Look Twice and Phil Rapp also made the trip, as did LHR Smooth Jamie May and Phil Hanson.

In the finals of the 5/6, TC and Boyd drew up second. They had a great run and marked a 227. Right behind them, working third, was Dont Look Twice and Phil Rapp. Another good run and it looked like it would be pretty close. Sure enough it was, Dont Look Twice’s score was a 228. Boyd and TC finished as reserve champions, picking up six points toward Horse of the Year.

Sunday, July 18, 2010 Fort Worth, Texas

Sunday was finals night in the Open 5/6 at the NCHA Summer Spectacular. Boyd and TC had eased their way through the go-rounds with a 219 in the first, followed by a 219.5 in the second round. A cumulative 438.5 gave them the third highest total going into the finals.

They got a great draw, working fourth in the first of two sets. Boyd took advantage of it. The crowd was stomping their feet and cheering when he cut his first cow. The second cow was even better and the crowd was on their feet cheering. When Boyd went back to the herd with 34 seconds left, everyone knew they were watching something extraordinary. The last cow was not particularly good, but sure didn’t hurt his run. They flashed his score on the board... a 230! A new record high score for the event. Waiting through the next set and a half was just about more anxiety than anyone could stand. Julie Wrigley’s mare, Special Nu Kitty and RL Chartier marked a 225, but that was as close as anyone came to TC’s run.

As the evening finished up, Special Nu Kitty, the reserve champion, and Rey Down Sally, the third place finisher with Gary Gonsalves, were both scheduled to be bred to TC in 2011. Thank you all. It just doesn’t get any better than that.

Thursday, July 11, 2010  Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

TC has been off enjoying himself at the breeding barn since Boyd went on injured reserve right after the Super Stakes. Boyd brought him to the Battle in the Saddle to get a show under his belt before the Summer Spectacular in another week.

It was like he had never been off at all! Showing in the $10,000 Novice, Boyd & TC won the go-round with a 223. Then, in the finals, they won it marking a 224! Guess he’s ready.

April 6, 2010  Fort Worth, Texas

In the first go of the 5/6 TC and Boyd marked a 219.5. It was the third high score in the round. The second round went late. It was around 9:00 p.m. when TC showed in the last set of the day. They marked a 217.5. A couple uncooperative cattle on his second cut made things difficult. But a cumulative score of 437 put them in the finals with the fourth highest total.

TC’s run in the finals was AWESOME! His score of 226 had him in the lead till late in the second set when Dont Look Twice tied it up. They ended up with co-champions. The split paid $43,253 which boosted his earnings to $377,565.

From here TC will head to the breeding barn at ESMS on the Brazos for a while to take care of all his lady friends. Be sure to get your mares booked early, his book is filling fast! Next show will be the Breeders Invitational.

March 11, 2010  Graham, Texas

In the first go round TC and Boyd nearly got ran over when a cow tried to run right under them. They survived with a 216.5. Second go of The Cattlemens TC marked a 218, a total of 435 put them in the finals easily. In the 14 horse finals TC drew deep at tenth. His first cow was soft, but the run got progressively better. A strong finish and he marked a 225. Looked like he might have it won till the last horse. Phil Rapp with Dont Look Twice stole the show with a 227. TC finished in reserve. Congratulations Phil! The reserve champion finish brought his earnings up to $334,312. Next stop will be the Super Stakes.

January 7 , 2010  Abilene, Texas

To start off the New Year, Boyd took Third Cutting to Abilene. This was his first time to be back in the show pen since winning the NCHA Derby in July last year. It was immediately apparent that the time off hadn’t hindered him at all. TC and Boyd won the first go round of the 5/6 marking a 221.5. Coming back in the second go, they placed second with a 221. Paul Hansma and Cats Little Tank topped that round with a 222.

In the finals it was all Third Cutting and Boyd. The 23 horse finals was two sets, and TC drew up last in the first bunch. With not much left to cut, they wowed the crowd marking a 227, to take the championship by 4.5 points over reserve champions Kory Pounds and Playin N Fancy Smart.
